An error occurred while tagging the file "03. B-Boys Makin' with the Freak Freak - Unknown Artist.mp3"

Description

"iTunes got an error: A descriptor type mismatch occurred.""\

I believe this problem is related to my output file format:

{fileFormat}/{albumArtist}/{albumTitle}/{trackNumber}. {trackTitle} - {trackArtist}

The format does not match the file on disk, which is:

03 B-Boys Makin' with the Freak Freak.mp3

The track info reported in the "Compact Disc" window shows the track artist to be "Same As Album". I would expect Max to honor the track format precisely (i.e., always include the track artist in the file name) or to account for the case when the format includes the track artist and the track artist is the same as the album artist.

I unchecked the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" check box, and now the file name format is honored (that is, iTunes was rewriting the file name behind Max's back). I still saw the same error (with different file names, of couse) for all 20 tracks on "Ill Communication". I can't tell what sets this album apart. Although I've seen this error with other tracks (for example, Hardfloor/Respect/04. Reverberate Opinion - Unknown Artist.mp3), I don't see it for all tracks, and I can't see a pattern.

So it turns out, I think, that I needed to check "Fall back to album tags if track tags unset".

You can close this bug as invalid then, if you want. But I think it that this either A) should not be an option (Max should always fall back to album tags) or B) Max should degrade gracefully.

Of course, if Max degraded gracefully (i.e., didn't throw any errors when track tags are unset), then I wouldn't have discovered the fact that an option I wanted set was in fact not set.

Okay... Even after checking the "fall back to albums" checkbox, I'm still seeing the error with every track on "Ill Communication". So that wasn't the issue (though now my file names are correct).
